SR'9009 has a lethal effect on cancer cells and oncogene-induced senescence cells, including melanocytic nevi, but has no effect on normal cell and tissue viability. SR'9009 regulates autophagy and lipid genesis, which plays a key role in inducing apoptotic responses in malignant cells. Cancer cells treated with SR'9009, by detecting splicing and TUNEL assay of caspase3, reduced their cell viability due to induction of apoptotic response. SR'9009 reduces the number of autophagosomes and thus inhibits autophagy.
