Pregabalin, a non-gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor agonist or antagonist, is a novel calcium channel regulator that can block voltage-dependent calcium channels and reduce the release of neurotransmitters. It is used clinically for neuralgia associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, postherpetic neuralgia, and adjuncts for partial epileptic seizures in adults, generalized anxiety disorder, central neuralgia (including neuralgia associated with spinal cord injury, stroke, and multiple sclerosis), and fibromyalgia. Pregabalin is mainly used to treat peripheral neuralgia and to assist the treatment of localized partial seizures.
